Privacy Policy

PatternAlarm is a row-counter and reminder app for knitters and crocheters. It's built to work entirely on your device — this policy explains exactly what leaves your phone, when, and why, in plain language.
The short version: everything you enter — projects, patterns, row counts, notes, session history — is stored only on your device unless you explicitly turn on Sync. We don't run ads, we don't use analytics or tracking SDKs, and we never sell your data.
1. Data stored only on your device
By default, PatternAlarm works fully offline. Everything you create lives in a local database on your phone and never leaves it:
- Project names, craft type, row counts and notes
- Pattern rules and events you add (increases, color changes, custom alerts, etc.)
- Session history (start/end time, rows completed, corrections)
- App settings (haptics, sound, alert timing) and your subscription status
We — the developer of PatternAlarm — have no access to this data unless you turn on Sync (below) or you choose to send it to us yourself (for example, by emailing us an exported file for support).
2. If you turn on Sync (optional)
Sync is off by default. If you choose Settings → Sync → Sign in with Apple, three things happen:
- Apple asks you to confirm sharing your name and email with us (you can choose to hide your real email — Apple will generate a private relay address instead).
- We create an account for you with Supabase, our database provider, identified by that Apple credential.
- The same project/rule/session data described in Section 1 is copied to our Supabase database so it can sync across your devices.
Sync is additive, not required: every feature of PatternAlarm — including Focus Mode and alerts — works fully offline, with or without an account, and is never blocked waiting on a network request.
Synced data is protected by database-level access rules (Row Level Security) so only your signed-in account can read or write your own rows. Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS).
3. Purchases & subscriptions
PatternAlarm offers optional in-app purchases (PatternAlarm Pro, annual or lifetime). Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never see or store your card details.
To keep your Pro status in sync (including across devices, if you use Sync), we use RevenueCat as our subscription-management processor. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-user identifier and your purchase/transaction status from Apple — not your name, email, or payment information — solely to validate your entitlement.
4. Notifications
PatternAlarm can alert you before a special row while the app is in the background. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device — nothing about your patterns or schedule is sent to any server to make this work.
5. What we don't do
- No advertising, and no ad networks embedded in the app
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and no behavioral tracking
- No access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, or photo library — PatternAlarm never requests these permissions
- We never sell, rent, or share your personal information for marketing purposes
6. Exporting & deleting your data

If you're not signed in, there's nothing on our servers to delete — everything only ever existed on your device. Either way, deletion is immediate and can't be undone.
Your free-project usage count is not affected by deletion — it tracks lifetime project creation, independent of your current project list, so it doesn't reset if you delete a project.
7. Third-party services we rely on
These providers process limited data on our behalf, only as described above. We recommend reading their own privacy policies for full detail on how they handle data:
- Apple Inc. — Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and local notification delivery. apple.com/legal/privacy

8. Data retention
On-device data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you use Sync, synced data is kept on our servers until you delete your account in-app (Section 6) — at which point it's removed immediately, not just deactivated.
9. Children's privacy
PatternAlarm is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data (for example, via Sync), contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can access your data at any time (Export Data) and delete it in-app (Section 6). If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK, or California, you may also have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or the CCPA — including the right to request a copy of what we hold about you or correct it. We don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of in that sense. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the email below.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to how PatternAlarm handles data, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note it in the app's release notes. Continued use of PatternAlarm after a change means you accept the updated policy.
